{"id":2170,"date":"2015-06-17T10:01:22","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T10:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hayleyroosphotography.co.uk\/mosaic\/?p=2170"},"modified":"2015-06-17T10:01:22","modified_gmt":"2015-06-17T10:01:22","slug":"shabbat-1920-june-parsha-korach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hayleyroosphotography.co.uk\/mosaic\/services\/this-shabbat\/shabbat-1920-june-parsha-korach\/","title":{"rendered":"SHABBAT  19\/20 JUNE: PARSHA KORACH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Shabbat comes in at 9.07 pm and goes out at 10.28 pm<\/em><\/p>\n<p>____________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>As the summer approaches, my wife and I have started giving our children advice on how to survive and flourish at camp. \u00a0 We say:\u00a0 \u201cAlways try to be helpful to the counsellors, they have to deal with a lot of kids.\u201d \u00a0 \u201cDon\u2019t leave your wet towels on your bed, you have to hang them up or they will get mouldy.\u201d \u00a0 And, \u201cDon\u2019t hang out with the kids who are troublemakers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Parsha Korach, Rashi notes that the Reuvenites hung out with the Kohathite clan to which Korach belonged. \u00a0 Why are the Reuvenites considered bad company? \u00a0 You may recall that back in Egypt, one of Jacob\u2019s last acts was to demote Reuven from his clan position as first-born (which came with leadership and inheritance privileges) because Reuven had taken Bilhah, Jacob\u2019s maidservant\/concubine to his own bed, in violation of Jacob\u2019s status and rights.<\/p>\n<p>So the Reuvenites were denied a leadership role by Jacob. \u00a0 Korah himself felt deprived of leadership by Moshe.\u00a0 It is not hard to imagine the Reuvenites and Korah grumbling and plotting together.
