{"id":1951,"date":"2015-05-13T10:59:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T10:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hayleyroosphotography.co.uk\/mosaic\/?p=1951"},"modified":"2015-06-03T09:20:52","modified_gmt":"2015-06-03T09:20:52","slug":"shabbat-7-may-2015-shabbat-behar-bechukotai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hayleyroosphotography.co.uk\/mosaic\/services\/this-shabbat\/shabbat-7-may-2015-shabbat-behar-bechukotai\/","title":{"rendered":"Shabbat 16 May 2015 \u2013 PARASHA BECHUKOTAI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Shabbat comes in at 8.21pm &amp; goes out at 9.33pm<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Parshat Bechukotai opens with the peculiar phrase, \u201cIf you walk in My laws and faithfully observe My mitzvot . . .\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to \u201cobey\u201d a law, to \u201cobserve\u201d a law, or to \u201cuphold\u201d a law.\u00a0 But the Torah doesn\u2019t use any of those words, choosing instead the grammatically awkward \u201cwalk\u201d in the law.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because\u00a0Halakhah is more than a law.\u00a0 It represents the attempt of the Jewish people to concretize a G-dly way of life. \u00a0 G-d wants us to choose the law as our own.\u00a0 In the words of the Mishnah:\u00a0 \u201cMake G-d\u2019s will your will.\u201d\u00a0 Or, as the Talmud puts it,\u00a0 \u201cG-d wants the heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Levi, of Midrash Vayikrah Rabbah, teaches that religious law, unlike governmental law, is not content merely regulating externals and defining propriety.\u00a0 The goal of Halachah must be to strengthen that inner sense of right, that drive to do good, that inner longing for justice that exists in the human heart.<\/p>\n<p>By adopting the Torah as our path in life, by allowing it to permeate our hearts beyond the limits of mere law, we choose a path of life and of holiness that can illumine our homes, our families and our communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Rabbi Paul Arberman<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shabbat comes in at 8.21pm &amp; goes out at 9.33pm Parshat Bechukotai opens with the peculiar phrase, \u201cIf you walk in My laws and faithfully observe My mitzvot . .
