Rabbi Paul Arberman

rabbipaulRabbi Paul, is a New Yorker who graduated from Wesleyan University in 1993, with a BA in Government. After university he worked in politics, first in Washington DC as an aide to Senator Charles Schumer, then in Brooklyn as press secretary to Rep. Anthony Weiner. Returning to full time studies in the rabbinical programme of the Jewish Theological Seminary, he received his MA in Judaic Studies in 1998. He then made aliyah and transferred to the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem where he gained semicha in 2002.

Rabbi Arberman spends one Shabbat per month at HEMS and he is also present for the High Holydays. When in Israel Rabbi Arberman maintains contact with HEMS using the internet (emails and Skype). In addition to liaising with the synagogue council, Rabbi Arberman uses the internet for pastoral work in the HEMS community and has conducted an educational course via Skype.

Currently Rabbi Arberman combines his post at HEMS with working in education In Israel. Previously he served as rabbi of two Israeli congregations, in Modiin and Netanya. He has also held several positions within the Masorti Movement including music director of Camp Ramah-NOAM (Summer 2001). He is a member of Rabbis for Human Rights.

Rabbi Arberman is married to Riki and they have three children: Ziv, and twins, Noa and Gilad.
