In today’s society the boundaries between objects and humans are being blurred. Human models are being increasingly “plasticated” within the media and advertising, through airbrushing and other post-production techniques, to create an idealised appearance for consumers to strive towards. At the same time, mannequins are being made to look more and more life-like, to work in the same way as airbrushed human models, by creating an idealisation for consumers to aspire to. These photographs examine this increasingly undefined boundary between humans and mannequins. Human? Mannequin? Who can tell? Perhaps there will come a time when these boundaries become so crossed that real human models will no longer be needed for advertisements, but instead mannequins can take their place. |
